Description:In 1961, 13 women underwent secret astronaut testing, passing the same battery of tests as the men, now famously known as the Mercury 7. Their hopes of being the first women astronauts were dashed when NASA and Congress put an end to the program. This permanent exhibition explores the story of the women and its effect on the US space program, and celebrates the accomplishments of these remarkable women.
