Two years ago, when Helen Stockton, NYFAI's oldest student, died aged 90+, her daughters, Joan and Robyn Stockton, contributed money to record NYFAI's oral history. We are currently in the process of interviewing and recording this history. The tapes and interviews will be housed at Rutgers University's archives.

For 10 years, NYFAI held classes in painting, drawing, sculpture, performance art, filmmaking, poetry, critical writing, and other subjects. Faculty included: Nancy Azara, Judy Chicago, Elaine DeKooning, Louise Fishman, Jewel Gomez, Barbara Hammer, Harmony Hammond, Lucy Lippard, Arlene Raven, Ntzoke Shange, Miriam Schapiro, May Stevens and others. Guests of honor over the years included: Louise Bourgeois, Alice Neel, Louise Nevelson, Faith Ringgold.

Any person who attended or worked with NYFAI and/or is interested in knowing about our meetings and our oral history project, please contact Nancy Azara.
