Description: Day of Performance: Contemporary Collectives Do Outrageous Work! This is the live component of Making It Together: Women's Collaborative Art + Community. The exhibit explores an important chapter in recent history when women artists, inspired by the 1970s Feminist Movement, worked collectively in new ways to engage communities and address social issues. The afternoon of installations and performance will demonstrate, in a rowdy and anarchic way, how feminism's innovative approaches to activism continue in the present, illuminating spectators on issues ranging from gender inequality to race, violence, technology, and international polictics. The exhibition was cited in The New York Times as "full of historical detail," reminding us that "feminist could raise hell as well as consciousness." Day of Performance features the Brainstormers (in collaboration with the Guerrilla Girls), Christal Brown & INSPIRIT, 6+ Collective, Ridykeulous, GuerrillaGirlsBroadBand, Spiderwoman Theater, and The Waitresses. Schedule available at Making It Together is on view through August 4, 2008. Guest-curator: Carey Lovelace
Event Type: On-going Project
