Artist Kate Kretz opened a challenging exhibition this week at York College in Pennsylvania, entitled "Common Denominator". The show, which has only been open for 3 days, but is already getting threats of limiting viewer access, takes on toxic masculinity in its many forms. The exhibition features work from Kretz's "#bullyculture" series, which "addresses the overlaps of entitlement and domination in our society, calling out the aggressors, the intimidators, and the often overlooked larger, systemic forces that encourage and reinforce this poison in our culture."

The show features works that are art-historically groundbreaking in their depictions of rape, employing Bel Hook's concept of the "Oppositional Gaze" to visually call out perpetrators in a way that echoes what is happening in our culture. The jaw-droppingly prescient body of work has been researched for over seven years, and executed over five years, with many works relating to, but far preceeding, the "#metoo" movement.

The 64-page catalog, which will be available in 2-3 weeks, is available in its virtual, final draft form here: http://online.anyflip.com/wydw/ujin/mobile/index.html#p=1

The work is not suitable for children, and could be triggering for victims of sexual assault.
