Feminism: Remembrance and Legacy
In honor of the 10th anniversary of The Feminist Art Project and the legacy of feminism in the arts, Claudia Sbrissa, visual artist, St. John’s University, and Kathleen Wentrack, art historian, Queensborough Community College, CUNY, collaborated on an interactive performance project entitled “Feminism: Remembrance & Legacy” at the 104th College Art Association Annual Conference in Washington, D.C.
Artists, art historians, curators, and critics were invited to share their memories and experiences with TFAP over its first 10 years, and/or offer advice to the younger generation in the form of a “letter to a young artist.” Participants were invited to contribute their ideas on an individual index card with a typed, handwritten, or visually expressed response. In reciprocity, those who give also received a print from the project collaborators reflecting the generous exchange of ideas, art, connections, and friendships through The Feminist Art Project.
All cards are available to view below and cards are part of The Feminist Art Project Files, the Miriam Schapiro Archives, housed in Rutgers University Special Collections and University Archives.
